The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Nigeria (TMDCN) focuses on

  • Creating Awareness – increase public awareness, acceptance and understanding about Muscular Dystrophy, and the abilities of individuals with Muscular Dystrophy
  • Promote Inclusion – of people with Muscular Dystrophy within our communities both in education, recreational and places of employment.
  • Career Guidance – through offering 1-2-1 support that will help MD patients develop or identify relevant and realistic work skills, improve their CV, perfect their interview technique and gain better job seeking skills.
  • Education – provide adequate information and resources to support people with Muscular Dystrophy, their parents and educators to ensure that individuals with Muscular Dystrophy receive quality education to prepare them for adult lives with equal opportunities
  • Procurement of mobility and daily living aids, household, bathing and other disabled aids to improve quality of life and give more independence to people with Muscular Dystrophy
  • Advocacy role – by helping MD patients who are experiencing difficulties or discrimination in educational, workplace and social environments.

Talk To A Therapist – Occupational Therapy Service

Although it has its centre in Benin city, this occupational therapy equally renders home-based interventions to patients all over Nigeria. Their services include the following:  Designing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) including self-care, home management, mobility and work-related tasks etc. Developing programs to facilitate functional capacity of patients such as positioning, exercise programs, and pain management techniques. Provision of assistive and adaptive equipment for patients such as orthoses, communication aids, mobility aids, as well as provide training on how to use them. Ergonomics and building modifications – advising on home and workplace environmental alterations for patients such as adjustments for wheelchair access. Liaise with other professionals, such as doctors, physiotherapists, equipment suppliers and architects, as well as patients’ families, teachers, carers and employers on practical support.
