The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Nigeria (TMDCN), represented by Mrs Ijeamaka Okenwa and Mr Ofonmbuk Ibanga, donated a wheelchair to Joy Chukwu Agaezi in Awka Anambra state on July 11, 2021. The wheelchair presentation was made possible following an online fundraising initiated by the charity. Thanks to all donors whose immense financial support enabled us to meet our target of purchasing and delivering the wheelchair to her in reasonable time. Joy is very delighted as she can finally get out and about, having been house-bound following the breakdown of her old wheelchair.
Joy is one of the patients being supported by TMDCN. She is an undergrad student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and currently studying History and International Relations. She has a 9-month-old baby, and lives with her partner who helps her with daily living.
In an interview with Ofonmbuk (see video below), Joy talksĀ about some challenges she faces with school such as paying her tuition fees as neither she nor her partner has a regular income. Also commuting from home to campus in public transport, being lifted in her wheelchair from the ground floor to top floor to attend her lectures which is dangerous and quite daunting. These challenges discourage her with forging ahead with school. The charity hopes to support her as much as it can in any way possible.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Nigeria (MDCN) is a registered charity in Nigeria set up to create awareness and reach Nigerian audience, educating people about Muscular Dystrophy (MD)
