Who We Are

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Nigeria (TMDCN) is a registered charity in Nigeria set up to create awareness and reach Nigerian audience, educating people about Muscular Dystrophy (MD). We are also set up to provide practical and real time support for people living with the condition. Part of our aim is to support families and friends of those affected by Muscular Dystrophy. We offer counselling services, practical advice and information materials on how to manage the condition as well as awareness campaigns on issues affecting people living with Muscular Dystrophy directly or indirectly.

TMDCN Purposes

1. For the prevention or relief of poverty caused by Muscular Dystrophy disability through

    • empowering and supporting people with by Muscular Dystrophy into suitable and sustainable employment by making reasonable adjustments and accessibility of work environment
    • providing advice about how to care for and manage Muscular Dystrophy to maintain independence and maximize potentials, using specialist service provider
    • championing the recognition and protection of rights of people affected by Muscular Dystrophy
    • facilitating an inclusive legislation that will provide adequate support for people with Muscular Dystrophy in education, employment and social or recreational activities

2. The improvement of health, better life and opportunity for people with Muscular Dystrophy by

  • signposting to available support network
  • providing physical and emotional support for people and their families/friends
  • enabling people to participate in identifying Muscular Dystrophy needs and respond appropriately
  • providing services, promoting opportunities that enable individuals with Muscular Dystrophy and their families to live as independently as possible.

3. The advancement of education for people with Muscular Dystrophy by

  • promoting inclusive and accessibility to education

4. The advancement of human rights for people with Muscular Dystrophy by

  • creating awareness of, improve knowledge and sensitizing the public about Muscular Dystrophy and how it affects people
  • striving to create an inclusive society by bridging the gap between people with Muscular Dystrophy and the rest of the society
