As part of our awareness campaign, The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Nigeria (TMDCN), in collaboration with Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Makurdi and sponsored by the UK Foundation for Muscular Dystrophy Nigeria, participated in Benue TV’s Talk Health programme on 7 April 2026.

The TMDCN delegation was led by Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeike, TMDCN North Central Coordinator. The programme featured Nwafor Gabriel N. (PT), Public Health Advocate, and Ojeh Blessing A. (PT), Advocate for Disability Inclusion, who spoke on the topic “Muscular Dystrophy: Early Signs and the Importance of Early Diagnosis and Treatment.”

During the programme, the speakers highlighted the early signs of muscular dystrophy, emphasised the importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate intervention, and discussed the challenges faced by individuals and families living with the condition. They also advocated for greater public awareness, disability inclusion, and improved access to healthcare services, encouraging communities to recognise the value of early diagnosis and collective support in improving outcomes for people affected by muscular dystrophy.

The programme reached a wide audience across Benue State and beyond, contributing to increased awareness of muscular dystrophy as a rare disease and reinforcing the importance of early detection, timely intervention, and access to appropriate care. The participation of TMDCN, together with its partners, reflects our continued commitment to improving awareness, strengthening healthcare partnerships, and advocating for better outcomes for people living with muscular dystrophy in Nigeria.
